River Lochay thoughts
The TGA visited the Lochay yesterday and were given a detailed tour. No one knows how many fish are ascending this river, the counters, by SSE admission, are inaccurate but locals will tell you there are not the fish spawning in the tributaries that there was previously. Is it time to review and discuss a new MOU with SSE around water abstraction from the river and its tributaries. We support the view that now is the time to install proper functioning counters on the river, so numbers are correctly estimated as the fish ascend to their spawning grounds. We suggest the Power stations were installed at a time when fish were plentiful. Now Scotland, with a declared climate emergency and fish numbers dropping, perhaps it is time for those in charge to sit round the table and discuss the abstraction. Your thoughts?
