Fisheries Management Scotland has released a video which aims to highlight things which might help to save returning fish from a premature end. It is interesting to read the comments on YouTube. Many people saying that how we handle fish is nothing to do with the decline in salmon. We agree that the decline in salmon is due to many factors – we all know what they are or might be. But we should all agree that handling of those fish that do return should be sympathetic to the fish and should be done as carefully as possible to ensure that it is given every chance to fulfil its destiny. Every returning fish is precious. View the film and try to follow the guidance next time you are out. “Grip and Grin” is selfish and unnecessary.
