As you know, we joined the Salmon and Trout Conservation SmartRivers programme last month and benchmarking took place on the Ericht, Shee, Ardle and Lochay on Monday and Tuesday. S&TC scientists joined us on Monday at the Ericht and they took samples in Blairgowrie above the weir, at By-Shot and Concrete Dyke, followed by The Shee at Lochlie Burn and the Ardle at Pitcarmick.

The weather was stunning and all the samples looked good.

Tuesday saw us at the River Lochay and samples were taken below the power station and all the way up from the Camp Site to the Pipe.

Thanks must go to Blairgowrie and Rattray District Angling Association for their help on the Ericht System, especially Peter Lock, Secretary and Grant Kellie, River Convenor who acted as guide on Monday. On the Lochay, a huge thank you to Alex Stewart, who was guide on Tuesday. Without their help this programme just would not work.

What happens next? All the samples have now been sent to a scientist for analysis. Other data taken at the sample sites will be sent to S&TC who will then run all the data through models to see if the samples throw up any issues. We will get feedback at some time in May. We will keep you informed!!
